How to block URL with LinkSys router

Linksys routers are some of the most popular routers for home networking. The router is the interim point between computers on the network and web addresses on the Internet. Linksys routers provide many features to assist the administrator of the network with securing computers on the network and keeping the network free of malware and attacks. One line of defense against attack would be to block a URL (web address) of an offending site from the router. On Linksys routers, you can block a URL in the Administration interface for the router.

1.Open a web browser and type the IP address for the Administration interface for the Linksys router. For most models of Linksys routers, the IP address is "192.168.1.1." If this IP does not work, consult the router's user manual for the correct IP address to the Administrator interface.

2.Log on to the Linksys Administration interface with the administrator user ID and password.

3.Click the "Access Restrictions" option.

4.Click the "Policy" drop-down box and create a new policy by clicking on the last number in the list.

5.Type a name for the new policy in the "Policy Name" input box. Type a name for the policy to exclude the URL. For example, to exclude Microsoft, a possible name for the policy might be "Block Microsoft."

6.Click the "Edit List of PCs" button. An entry form will open, allowing the administrator to enter the IP addresses of PCs to exclude.

7.Enter the IP addresses of the computers to exclude in the section labeled "Enter the IP Addresses of the PCs" to exclude local computers.

8.Type the URL for the website to be blocked in the "Website Blocking by URL Address" input box to exclude Internet addresses from access.

9.Click the "Save Settings" button. The computers and/http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifor URLs are now blocked from passing through the Linksys router.
