Router vs. Hub vs. Switch

Routers, hubs and switches all perform similar functions on home and business networks. Each one, however, does the job a bit differently. Hubs used to be the only way to join network devices over an Ethernet network. As computers and software used more bandwidth, hubs needed an upgrade and switches became the standard. Routers have always performed like switches but their function is different. They are responsible for joining outside networks where switches work within a single network.

Hubs
The function of a hub is simple. It takes the signal transmitted from one computer and rebroadcasts it to all the other computers attached to it. This means that if Computer A sends a message to Computer B, Computer C still gets the message and looks at it. Computer C looks into the packet and sees that the data is not for it, so it takes no action. This still takes up processor time from Computer C.

Switches
Switches are like hubs but have internal processing capacity. They are able to memorize the Media Access Control (MAC) address of all the devices attached and what ports they are on. Using this information, a switch can take the information transmitted by Computer A and send it directly to Computer B. In this case, Computer C never sees the data. Switches can also reserve bandwidth for a single conversation between computers so that the rest of the bandwidth is freed up for other conversations.

Routers
Routers perform the same functions as switches, so some are referred to as switching routers. The function that makes them routers instead of just switches is the ability to join several networks together and act as a gateway device between them. This function is used in home networking when a router joins the home network to the larger network of the Internet, providing online access.

Mixing
The technologies of all three are compatible with each other. You can have a home network with a router bringing in Internet, switches below that and hubs below that. If a router will perform the job of a switch, it is much more economic to use one device instead of several.

Upgrading
If you have a network using several hubs that are daisy-chained together, upgrading to a single switch with sufficient ports will speed up your Internet and provide cost savings overall. More functions mean more cost, but even if it costs a little more, the savings in time and productivity could justify the upgrade.

How to remove WGA.

How to remove Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications tool or WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage)?
..run the program called removeWGA, download link below.

- what is removeWGA program?
..A small utility that enables you to remove the Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications tool

RemoveWGA will enable you to easily remove the Microsoft "Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications" tool, which is calling home and connect to MS servers every time you boot. Futures updates of this notification tool will (officialy) setup the connection rate to once every two weeks.

Once the WGA Notification tool has checked your OS and has confirmed you had a legit copy, there is no decent point or reason to check it again and again every boot.

Moreover, connecting to Microsoft brings security issue for corporate networks, and privacy issues for everyone. It is also unclear which information are transmitted (Microsoft published an official answer, but an individual study brought some questions).

All of that, along the fact that Microsoft used deceptive ways to make you install this tool (it was told you it was an urgent security update, whereas it is a new installation giving you no extra security) makes me calling this tool a spyware.

Also, Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications is different than Windows Genuine Advantage Validation. RemoveWGA only removes the notification part, phoning home, and does not touch the Validation part.

Note: Some antivirus and antispyware programs flag RemoveWGA as being infected/malware, although the application is perfectly safe and does not pose a threat to your system. This is called a 'false positive'. The term false positive is used when antivirus software wrongly classifies an innocuous ( inoffensive ) file as a virus. The incorrect detection may be due to heuristics or to an incorrect virus signature in a database. [Similar problems can occur with antitrojan or antispyware software.

Here are some key features of "RemoveWGA":
http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif
• Tell you if the WGA notification tool is active on your system
• Allows you to remove the WGA notification tool from your system
• Accept the "-silent" command line parameter to silently check if the WGA notification tool is active on your system, and popup only if it is found (usefull for checking automatically at startup for instance)

..Steps to download and execute the removeWGA
1. download removeWGA tool. click here to download

.. select open with ,select winrar and click ok. if you dont have winrar in your computer, click here to download winrar

2. extract the file. see pic below.

3. run the program, if wga found in your computer it will pop up, and click "yes".
